The Process
How is the Stone Washed finish achieved?
1. Priming
The raw fabric is cleaned, primed in a large vat, stabilised and dried.
2. Cutting
The fabric is then cut into panels, which are washed to allow for warping and pre-shrinking.
3. Construction
The garments are then cut and stitched with a specially treated cotton thread, so the threads and garments take the dye uniformly.
4. Dyeing
The garments are dyed in garment form with reactive dyes in a large vat.
5. Washing with Stones or Chemicals
The garments are placed into a cylindrical drum containing stones of different sizes. As the drum rotates, the stones rub against the fabric, abrading the colour on the surface.
In an alternative method, approved chemicals are added to the vat with the dyed garments to achieve a similar abrasion effect. This process forms part of our closed-loop, zero-discharge system, meaning there is zero discharge of hazardous chemicals from the fabric processing plant.
